[A message appears in the journal, first a series of crossed out words and intelligible scribbles, then a harshly scrawled question. Someone seems to be having trouble finding the right words to express themselves today.]

What do you do to take your mind off something? What are you supposed to do when there's something you just can't stop thinking about?

[Zan'nen's frown deepened. Such a stupid question, but the emptiness of his house was really weighing on his mind. The loss of his roommate, and everyone talking about being sent home and disappearing only made it more apparent. The kid he lived with was always so nervous, how the hell was he supposed to know if he was okay out there? Back on his world? Why wasn't their a way to find out?]

Also, I'd like to know who's still around that recognizes me, if anyone. I was gone for a while. So, hello to the rest of you too, I suppose. Anything major change recently I should know about?

[Zan'nen opens his mouth to say something, but Haruhi gets only silence.]

[That was... kind of touching, actually. They were friends. Haruhi thought of him as a friend. Don't mind the suddenly dopey smile. He'll vehemently deny it if you call him out on it.]

[Zan'nen didn't really wait long to see her. It was a little late to go sight-seeing the day they'd originally spoken, but the next day had seemed completely fine to him. He figured they'd waited long enough to speak.

So on the 18th, Zan'nen shows up at the Smithy, armed rather awkwardly with a completely traditional picnic basket. Red-checkered cloth and all. She hadn't really told him when her lunch break was, so he shows up at about twelve-ish. If she looks busy, he doesn't bother saying hello, but instead wanders around poking at finished weapons and things no one has claimed yet until someone decides to tell him to stop, or he breaks something. Whichever comes first.]

[Awh, c'mon, Haruhi. You've probably had plenty of idiots like him for friends before.]

I don't think me agreeing with you has anything to do with me being a man.

Extinct? [Boy, did that bring up some bad memories. Galaxy-spanning civilization, huh?] WEre they killed off? Or did they die-out?

Don't give me a lame answer like that. There's more than just magic involved with these things, y'know. There's biology that goes along with it too. [At least, in his world there is.]

I know that, but beyond the fact that they can cast magic, have teeth and claws and try to eat you, I do not know how a dragon's body works.

Shouldn't you know at least know something about it if it's trying to eat you? Maybe it has a weak spot you could exploit. Maybe it's only aggressive during mating season. [Apparently the man likes dragons, Frey.]

Sometimes.. But the dentist is really, really scary, so I try to avoid having to go there since it's horrible!
