Regret 009; [Written]

[A message appears in the journal, first a series of crossed out words and intelligible scribbles, then a harshly scrawled question. Someone seems to be having trouble finding the right words to express themselves today.]

What do you all do to- What happens when--

What do you do to take your mind off something? What are you supposed to do when there's something you just can't stop thinking about?

If there's any way to beat it out of me, that works too.

[Zan'nen's frown deepened. Such a stupid question, but the emptiness of his house was really weighing on his mind. The loss of his roommate, and everyone talking about being sent home and disappearing only made it more apparent. The kid he lived with was always so nervous, how the hell was he supposed to know if he was okay out there? Back on his world? Why wasn't their a way to find out?]

Also, I'd like to know who's still around that recognizes me, if anyone. I was gone for a while. So, hello to the rest of you too, I suppose. Anything major change recently I should know about?

[...]

That's it I guess.

Zan, it's [...] been a while.

[Okay the nickname stuck. So what.]
godbent: (Imagine you and me)

Oh, I recognize you.

I recognize you too. You still mad at me?

[...Zan, huh? Two can play at that game.]

Hey... Win. [He's creative, obviously.] It's good to see you. I'll think I'll go out on a limb here and say it's been longer than just 'a while'.

Throw myself at the most high-risk scenarios I can cook up in the battle dome usually.

A little bit.

I go train. [Or find some sort of project and work at it singlemindedly.]

Do you know anything about meditation?

[voice]

[identity profile] returninghope.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Suffice it to say, he wasn't really expecting that answer.]

What the hell for?

[identity profile] returninghope.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
... Not really. I don't know if I'd have the patience to sit in one place that long. Does that actually do any good?

[Written]

[identity profile] crytearsofjoy.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[It's not a game, just...! Habit. Yeah.]

Yeah, you're right. We really didn't make good on the trying to stay friends, did we?

[identity profile] returninghope.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
High-risk, huh? What sorts of scenarios does that equate to?

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's a slow process, and it does require patience, but you'll find that once you learn how to empty your mind, it's much easier to shunt away those thoughts that would otherwise become obsessions.

It takes a lot of practice for results to appear, however.

The lower chances for survival were it a real situation the better, basically.

Going through scout sniper scenarios is usually tied for first choice... but without the training I think they would be little more than exercises in frustration.

[identity profile] returninghope.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's really it? That's all there is to it?
falenandawn: (ummm...)

[personal profile] falenandawn 2011-10-18 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well... I generally pick an opponent in the battledome that leaves little room for thinking.

[And a cute habit. He didn't complain about it now did he?]

... I don't know. I'd still count you as a friend on my end, anyway. Not like it's a lost cause or anything.

[identity profile] returninghope.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's more or less the point of snipers, now isn't it? If they couldn't aim well and quickly, they wouldn't be much good.

Sounds like you're pretty practiced in sniper situations. Is that something carried over from home?

[identity profile] returninghope.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
So someone who's pretty quick and entirely exhausting then, huh? Anyone in particular, Frey?

[identity profile] crytearsofjoy.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well it's not that it went bad, we just didn't keep in touch. We should hang out more often.
falenandawn: (umm2)

..... [A long pause. He fought some pretty serious opponents. But they were....] people from my world who are in the business of killing.

If not them, I choose some of the larger monsters.

Actually, the part of the drill that's best for losing yourself is the stealth required to reach a firing location.

Yeah- worked for a PMC back on Frontier.

Depends on the sort of something.

[ He thinks he recognizes you, but Rep's testing the waters a bit here. They never actually got to converse, after all. ]

Well.. When it's up to me, it's definitely sleeping or eating! I'm pretty sure one of those would take someone's mind off anything at all!

[In the careful, elegant scrawl of a man whom has once practiced calligraphy, he answers:]

I seek mental clarity through training and meditation.
