[For whatever reason, her touching his ears makes him jolt up from the table. Damn, he didn't know his ears were that sensitive.]

It sounded like you were falling asleep. [Now she's tilting her head to the side, her expression just a little sad.] Should I come by later...?

No, Kaori. I said it was fine. I'm awake. I'm listening.

[Zan'nen reseated himself, and then softly rapped his fingers across her forehead. Sleepy, or not, he heard that tone, young lady.] I'm listening, really. So what is it?

[After blinking in surprise she'll manage a small smile. Really, she should come by more often.]

Well... I'm not going to be living in this building anymore.

[Zan'nen freezes for a moment. She was leaving, huh? He rips his hand back. That was just great.

Zan'nen pressed his lips together, and dared steal a glance at the room where Marcell used to stay. No one else lived on this floor anymore. He didn't think he'd mind, but at night it just got so damn quiet.]

...That so? Where are you going?

[... Dammit, this was part of the reason why she didn't want to leave. She knew how lonely it was, living on your own, but at least... Zan'nen was nearby. Even if all the things that brought them together were experiments, she'd like to think that he wasn't so bad, that they could get along. She didn't really mind.

And it hurt to sense how upset that made him.] H... House 15, Freyjadour thinks I'll be safest there.

[Freyjadour, huh? He should've known. Zan'nen got up from the table, just to have something to do. It was odd, that when she said that, he had to fight this urge to hunt him down and punch him in the face.]

Safest, huh? Safe from what? It's not like a change of rooms will protect anyone from the messed up shit that we're subjected to every- [Zan'nen abruptly cuts himself off, running a hand angrily through his hair. What the hell Frey? Is this supposed to be some kind of insult? He was here. What the heck did she need protecting from that he couldn't-He was her brother briefly, too, dammit.

Dammit. He shouldn't have said anything out loud. Dammit.]

[To say she hadn't expected this reaction was putting it a little too lightly. And while she won't disagree about Frey being an idiot (because sometimes it seemed like it), she knows he really is thinking about what's best for her. It was an expression of kindness she wasn't used to anymore, so that it happened made her very confused and unable to do much but agree and follow along his lead. ]

... It's not the experiments he's trying to protect me from...

[After effectively emasculating Frey from afar, Kaori shifts about uncomfortably in her seat. It had been hard enough explaining everything about Legato to Frey, but explaining it to Zan'nen as well? And though she's not aware of it, he had been one of the voices she had heard him talking to that night.]

[Zan'nen's been through enough in his world to guess that's not the complete truth.]

... It's kinda both. [And now she'll need time to think about how she's going to tell him. While she had taken Frey to where it had happened, she was by no means ready to go back there again, especially so soon afterward.]

[Zan'nen paced back and forth, trying to spend some time thinking on what the best reaction to that statement would be. He checked the lock on the door, threw a coat that had been thrown on floor into his room.]

You don't have to tell me anything. I can get that.

... I remember. [Kaori, did you ever tell him how you broke that arm? Did someone do that to you?]

Well... [Her hands begin to clench into fists, the knuckles turning white while her nails begin to dig into the skin of her palms. Sometimes she thought she could still feel the pain of the injuries she'd received.]

[Zan'nen dropped whatever train of thought he was intending on going with, and moved next to her., placing a hand on her shoulder gently.]

... Who hurt you? [He did a pretty good job of keeping his anger swallowed. Making sure Kaori was going to be alright was more important at the moment.]

[This was truly a hard thing for her to do, even if she does like Zan'nen. It was hard to admit that she had been taken advantage of that, and that before yesterday no one had known about what happened that night except for her, Wolfwood and Vash. It had been so hard to admit as much as she did to Frey alone.]
